Obama Gets Snippy With Reporter
After four years of playing softball, it appears some members of the White House Press Corps have decided to stop giving President Obama a pass; and he is not pleased. During his press conference March 1, a reporter bluntly addressed the idea that (shocker!) perhaps the president isn’t taking any responsibility for the sequester. Clearly irritated, Obama responded with his own question – What could he be expected to do?
What I’m suggesting is, I’ve put forward a plan that calls for serious spending cuts, serious entitlement reforms, goes right at the problem that is at the heart of our long-term deficit problem. I’ve offered negotiations around that kind of balanced approach. And so far, we’ve gotten rebuffed because what Speaker Boehner and the Republicans have said is, we cannot do any revenue, we can’t do a dime’s worth of revenue.
In other words if the Republicans would just allow the president to tax the wealthy into poverty, then he promises to deal with the debt that has increased more under his watch than any president before him. Obama ended the exchange by asking if anyone had any suggestions for him, claiming he was open to ideas. Evidently, however, the suggestion that Obama accept responsibility for the economy under his administration falls under the list of ideas he has decidedly rejected.
